Well, this is annoying:

Facebook Login

Account Unavailable

Your account is temporarily unavailable due to site maintenance. It should be available again within a few hours. We apologize for the inconvenience.

A "few hours" is also incredible to me.  Site maintenance should not bring the site down for more than a few minutes.

Also, what is the deal with the continual changes to, (read: messing-up of), the user interface in Facebook?

Oh, never mind, it let me log in.

Burying the lead:

Global Climate Treaty = Global Government

If you haven't heard about this, a global climate treaty will be signed in December, this year. To be valid in this country, first the President must sign it, and then Congress must ratify it.
Basically, what this treaty will do is create a governing body to administer and enforce, over and above any single country, climate rules for pollution and carbon dioxide and etc.
Since the United States is one of the "wealthiest" countries, we would have to give our money to other countries as payment for our "ecological sins" of producing too much carbon dioxide.
You can hear part 1 of 2 from Glenn Beck and Lord Monckton here.

Yet another issue to pick up the phone about.

Google is known for changing their logo on special days. Holidays, famous people's birthdays, etc.
They even did one for China's Communist anniversary. And they say "don't be evil."

Today's special, the bar code:

Seriously? They couldn't think of anything better?
October is breast cancer awareness month. Today is only the 7th, so Google still has plenty of time to show they care with a special logo. Maybe tomorrow.

For all the talk of Choice and Competition, you'd think allowing people to buy insurance across state lines would've come up... Unless you can explain to me how 13000+ insurance companies competing in all 50 States wouldn't increase choice and competition.

Fringe News
The so-called "main stream" media is a far left fringe group. Here's one alternative: http://biggovernment.com/

Wake up anyone you can

Most Dangerous Man?
Cass Sunstein:
"maintaining freedom of choice while also steering people's decisions in directions that will make their lives go better."

Who decides what direction will make my life go better? And why would I let someone "steer" my decisions? Is this guy dangerous?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cass_Sunstein

Indescribable: In the two videos below, ACORN (which is partly funded by your tax dollars) employees advise people on how to evade the law, but that doesn't even begin to tell the story. Two very brave people went undercover to see just how corrupt ACORN really is.

Now, the most likely response from ACORN, once they get past the denial stage, will be to let these two employees go and claim they knew nothing about it. In any case, someone should be in jail.

Communist Advising the President?

The Following are Facts: I do my best to suppress my opinion...

Van Jones
- the Green Jobs "Special Adviser" to President Obama, declared himself a communist in 2005. According to Jones, this happened after he was caught up in the Los Angeles riots of 1992. "I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th," he said. "By August, I was a communist."
He then went on to work with the people he met in jail for the next ten years, "trying to be a revolutionary."
(one link here for those two quotes)

According to this August 27, 2009 opinion piece, Jones has not renounced his communist views. "In effect, green is the new red." Note that I'm linking to page 2 of the editorial.

His own Wikipedia entry claims that Jones has renounced his communist views (see the PS below), but the cited article [#17] for that sentence says nothing of Jones renouncing communism.

Jones' Wikipedia page also cites the Huffington Post [#18] which is decidedly left-wing. And even though the author of the post, Eva Paterson, claims Jones is no longer a communist, nowhere that I could see does she link to the article she cites as proof.

That seems odd to me, but I may have inadvertently found the 2005 article cited by the Huffington editorial, which I've already linked to earlier in this post. I am not 100% sure that it is the same one though, so don't quote me on that.

The closest thing I found in the Huffington editorial to Jones "renouncing communism" is the following quote:
"Way back then, I counseled him to rethink his tactics and to work for change in wiser ways."
Rethinking tactics is not the same as turning away from communism.

So the best I can tell is that Van Jones has not clearly and directly renounced communism. He seems to have focused on environmentalism in recent years.

PS: Even while I was writing this, the Wikipedia entry was changed. Not kidding. The line that claimed Jones had renounced communism seems to have vanished, and a warning about the article's neutrality has been added to the top of the page.

Enough facts, time for my opinion:
Saving the earth sounds good. Keyword there is "sounds." The problem with the "ism" of environmentalism is that it often seems to be anti-capitalist.
If the government would just pick a technology (and stick to it!), for our cars to use, the auto-industry could make it happen. If the government would give tax incentives for reducing pollution (instead of increasing the tax burden through fines and cap-and-tax), industries would innovate to find the best solutions for reducing pollution while maximizing profits.
If "maximizing profits" sounds evil, I ask you: Is your employer a poor person? No? That's because the wealthy create jobs.

A question or two:

Did the President know of Jones' communist past? By his own words, Jones was working with "revolutionary" people he met in prison at least until 2002.

1. President Obama seems to be quite intelligent. (seriously)
2. Jones is apparently still a communist.
3. Jones is a special adviser to the President.
This means that either Mr. Obama is incredibly stupid for not noticing Jones' communist views (not likely), or he doesn't have a problem with them or with Jones' past. I can't think of any other logical conclusion.

Are you comfortable with a communist advising our President on anything?
